General Information

A local history researcher has discovered that Snow White is based on a historical model from the Kellerwald forest!
Eckhard Sander, a researcher from Borken, has found out that Princess Margaretha, the daughter of a Kurhessen-Waldeck Count, could have been the original character for the fairy tale Snow White of the Brothers Grimm.  She was the daughter of the Hessian Count Philipp IV von Wildungen, born in 1533 and only 21 years old. Her life was obviously the inspiration for the Brothers Grimm tale. Her brother, Count Samuel von Waldeck (1528-1570), who received Altenwildungen Castle (today Schloss Friedrichstein) from his father, is regarded as the founder of Bergfreiheit.

Since the turn of the millennium, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves represent their homeland as symbolic figures.

Over the years, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs have appeared at many public events and inspired a large audience with radio and television appearances. Take a look at the many activities of the Bergfreiheit townspeople.
